Hypericum can be annuals, perennials, shrubs or trees, evergreen or deciduous, with usually paired leaves and showy yellow flowers with prominent stamens, followed by capsules, occasionally berry-like
Native of england, southwards to N. Africa in woods and hedges, flowering from May to Sept. Deciduous shrub to 1m. Fruits rounded, fleshy, turning red then black. Hardy to -20c. Cut down to base, will regrow from base.
