lathyrus
sweet pea lathyrus
The genus consists of about 150 species of annuals and perennials, many of them are tendril climbers and some of them are edible. The leaves are pinnate, with racemes of pea-shaped flowers that come in a wide range of colours from red, pink, mauve and white to blue and even pale yellow. The flowers are followed by long thin seed pods. You should grow them in humus-rich, fertile, well drained soil with full light. You can propagate the annuals by seeds; remember to soak before sowing in early spring or early autumn.
