before sowing, soak seed for 12 hours. sow in trays of a good moist compost in a coldframe and cover with class, cover seed to shut out light. covering seed with 6mm of compost. Keep seed cool, no higher than 16-21 C. Germination takes 30-16 days.
Transplant when large enough to handle. Grow on without check, plant out following spring. Seed is slow and erratic to germinate. May benefit from pre-soaking for 24 hours in tepid water.
2024-01-25: Got seed from RHS seedbank to see if I can improve my stock
2023-11-16: Slowly but surely starting to learn how to treat the cyclamens during the summer to have a containers flowering in the winter. This year I have 6-8 containers, all very healthy and with multiple flowers. Ready to go to the front door
2021-10-21: Sown harvested seed autumn 2000 (only 3 or 4 survived).Sown again in autumn 2001. Two seeds germinated so far (2months)
2020-06-17: Managed to harvest some seeds of the cyclamens and get them to grow on in pots. It looks like it takes about 2-3 years for the seed to grow into a plant that starts to flower
