Agastache

Anise Hyssop agastache Foeniculum

is a tender, drought-tolerant perennial native to the plains and prairies of North America. It has aromatic leaves and colourful flower spikes beloved of bees and other pollinators. Its fragrant leaves can be dried and used to make a delicious tea.

Agastache can be raised from seed or propagated from existing plants by division. Where agastache grows as a perennial it can be divided every three to five years.

2022-04-08: Planted them out in the autumn as I had so many plants, However, I never checked to notes again and did not realise they tender. Unfortunately they all died over winter.

Wrinkled Hyssop Agastache rugosa

This liquorice white Korean Hyssop or Wrinkled Hyssop has tall spikes of white flowers. Emits sweet liquorice perfume. Attract honey bees and butterflies. 75-90cm. sturdy, does not need staking. Leaves are edible. Enjoy dry soils and sunny position. Seeds attract small birds in winter.

Sow Febr - March under glass for late flower, or April-June for mid summer flower next year. Sow in warmth to germinate. Likes rich moist soil. Do not cover the seeds. Germinate 14-28 days. Will thrive any any good draining soil in sun or partial shade.

2023-08-30: The Agastache Rugosa alba flowered all season in the plant boxes in their pots. At the end of the season I planted them out into larger pots, trimmed them down and overwintered them in the cold frame. Will see if they last through the winter

Hyssop-Anise Agastache aurantiaca

Agastache aurantiaca or Apricot Sprite provides blast of tabular peachy-apricot flowers during to late summer until frost. 45-60cm. Suitable for borders or containers. Can be used for tea. Prefer sunny situation with moderate moist fertile soil.

Sow Febr- March or April - June. sow under glass in warth to germinate. prick out and harden off late spring. sow in cells or pots. Light aids germination.

2023-09-15: Replanted into larger pots for overwintering in the greenhouse. Hope to have strong plants to plant out in the spring.

2023-09-01: Flowered throughout the summer, looking beautiful and with wonderful scent

2023-03-05: 14 pods of Agastache ready to be transplanted from pods.
