This genus consists of about 400 species of mostly evergreen or semi- evergreen, woody tendril-climbing vines, They are grown for their flowers which range from pale pink to purple-red. Many species produce egg-shaped to rounded, fleshy edible fruits that mature to yellow or orange in autumn. They are half hardy to frost tender, min 5-16C. Grow them in any fertile, well drained soil in full sun or partial shade.
